LETTERS: 2010 GENERAL & WLBC ELECTIONS

2010 Election Candidates & Election Messages

ELECTION RESULTS

Dear Readers,
We would like to extend a great big heartfelt thank you to all the voters who voted Labour in the general and Local Elections. It was a disappointment to see a hard working genuine politician like David Borrow not get re-elected but the mixture of boundary changes and big 'foreign' money had its effect.

However, democracy in the northern parishes is now in a much healthier position with people being able to register their vote for a viable opposition to the current Tory domination. Whilst you would always wish to win elections outright, it was encouraging (to say the least!) to see so many votes were placed for Labour with around a third of voting electors choosing not to vote Tory locally, despite being bombarded with expensive glossy literature from the party machine.

We are especially so proud of the results that Lucy achieved. At 19 standing for the first time, achieving 612 votes was, we believe, the highest non- Tory vote achieved in Hesketh Bank ever, representing a new voice locally which we hope also will encourage younger voters to view politics from the young persons perspective! We also saw the same % result in the other wards of Tarleton & North Meols.

This has established a base from which to work from in future elections. Once again thank you all for your votes, they are highly valued.

Kind regards,
Team Hodson: Lucy, Gail & John. 8th May 2010

Local Elections

Dear Editor,
Local Elections were held in the Northern Parishes on the same day as the General Election. Three Borough Councillors were elected to serve Hesketh Bank,Banks and Tarleton.

It is interesting to see that the Conservative Councillors were re- elected by approximately two-thirds of the vote. The other candidates were, I assume, all related as they all had the same surname. They all stood as Labour candidates which, if I'm not mistaken, one of them has always claimed he is independent when it comes to local matters. Did he feel that he could "come out" on this occasion?

Related to this is the question of what did it cost us? I mean, someone had to pay for the administration work. I understand from the Borough Council that we, the Council Taxpayers, pay for it. I've researched back on previous elections over many years where this person's surname appears as a candidate and he hasn't been very successful in his bid for power? Oh yes, I understand that it's democracy in action but you'd think by now he'd have got the message wouldn't you and stop wasting taxpayers money in the name of democracy!!

Yours faithfully,
W. Pactor. 8th May 2010

Unwanted Text Hassle By Politician

Today (6 May) I received a text purporting to come from one DCameron asking me to vote Conservative. When I tried to reply to point out this is in breach of Data Protection as I have not passed this number to any political party it came up 'number invalid.'

Didn't they pay the bill?

2010 Elections

Monday: posted our votes. Still not seen a candidate - tho' UKIP had a van in Tarleton on Sunday: hardly traditional English values to canvass on a Sunday!

Thanks to the West Lancs officer who got us replacement voting cards for the district election as the printers hadn't sent ours. No real thanks to South Ribble who sent postal voting paper work that could have sorted out the candidates on the Krypton Factor!

Stick the grey bit on here and the purple bit on here ... what happened to simple pre-printed reply envelopes?

Ian Wells. 3rd April 2010

Career Politicians

Mr Wells,
I think you have hit the nail on the head; the general election candidates obviously all assume that we will vote for the party rather than the individual thus no further effort is required on their part.

Lets face it, as not one of the candidates has thought it worthwhile to post their mesage on the website then we really should not expect too much from whoever wins.

So, if we must accept that we can only vote for career polititians rather than someone who will make a stand for the local area, then we may as well vote to grasp this once in a lifetime opportunity to overhaul the election process and get a fairer system in place.

But then again, why should I vote for a Lib Dem who doesn't even know where Hesketh Bank is? Perhaps I will not bother voting then I can blame the outcome on everyone else!

J Ball. 29th April 2010

Election? What election?

Dear Mr Wells,
My name is Lucy Hodson, and I am the Labour candidate standing in Hesketh Bank for the borough council this election.

I am very sorry that I've not managed to get round to you yet, but I can assure you that I have been very active in door-to-door canvassing in Hesketh Bank. As you may appreciate, it takes some time to get round the number of houses in the shor time limit that we have. I will be delivering my election leaflet very shortly, and in the mean time if there are any particular issues which you would like to raise with me please do not hesitate to contact me via these pages.

Lucy Hodson. 29th April 2010

p.s I extend this offer to anyone of Hesketh Bank.

Election? What election?

Is it the power of the web? or just co-incidence? Now had TWO identical copies of a new flyer from the Blue party. Still no answers to the big questions, and nothing to tell me what experience makes the candidate herself worthy of my vote. Will any one of them get round to appearing in person before my postal vote goes in?

Ian Wells, 29 April 2010

Election? What election?

I've got my postal voting card but no-one has made themselves available at this end of the constituency (Hesketh Bank): no meetings, no canvassing from any of the candidates, and just one electoral communication each from four of the five standing.

Even those tell me nothing about the candidates and assume I'll be voting for a party ticket without regard to the competence of the specific candidate. And they are all very vague party tickets, without costings, tax proposals, or how much public service will be lost to continue to fund the bankers.

Before I post my vote off at the weekend, is anybody there?

Ian Wells, 28 April 2010
