4th June 2009 Elections - Lancashire County Council
A message from MALCOLM BARRON

Dear elector,

Since my election in May 2005 many residents will be aware of the help I have given them personally and that I have been available to be contacted by all either by phone or email.I have worked hard with all the District Councillors and with the Parish Councils in the interests of our area.
One of my main concerns is the state of our roads and I have spoken many times at full council and committee to highlight this problem and I believe that I am the only Councillor to ask for and obtain a report on the state of our roads which estimated  in 2005 a cost of 1.1 million to put them in reasonable condition, the total allowed for the County is approx 5million I have been able to obtain much extra spending in our area but our roads are still in appalling condition. the Conservatives are committed to extra spending on the roads and pavements.
With cross party help I was able to prevent the closure of Rufford recycling centre.
I have obtained a study and plans for the green Lane Link which has been costed at £2 million and obtained promises of £75,000 towards this from the Parish Councils to highlight the need for it. With considerable help from our Conservative Parliamentary candidate Lorraine Fullbrook I have lobbied intensely for the Link and we will continue to do so.
Our farmers are concerned about the Hesketh Marsh Realignment scheme and I will push for a pumps  to be put in place to prevent flooding
Our youth are the future and I am committed to improving youth facilities and have obtained grants for clubs in Mere Brow and Hesketh Bank and am hoping to start one in Tarleton. As a governor of two excellent local Schools I am
Concerned that our young people get the best start in life possible
We must improve the quality of life for our older residents and have obtained grants to this end.
Residents have experienced horrendous problems with the Utility companies such as overflowing sewage, flooding power failures and roadworks taking months to complete I have successfully helped  residents many times on these matters even to the point of reporting the companies to the regulator.
If you elect me I will work with our 7 District Councillors to represent all residents.

There has been much publicity about disgraceful expense claims submitted by MPs.I feel that residents have the right to know my expenses which are published with all Councillors on the LCC website.
For the year 2008/09
Mine are
Basic allowance(paid to all Councillors)…£10,039.00
Special responsibility…..£428.259 (asst whip/group sec)
Travel and subsistence….£862.26
