4th June 2009 Elections - Lancashire County Council
A message from ALAN BULLEN

Election Statement of Alan Bullen for County Council Elections
Thursday 4th June 2009
West Lancashire Northern Division.

My Pledge to you

In the current climate pledges and promises from politicians may well be received by the electorate with some justifiable scepticism and I share the disgust felt by most people at the actions of some Westminster Members of Parliament of all parties. My pledge to you should I be elected to represent West Lancashire North is that I will publish a full list of all expenses and allowances each year and also a full list of all meetings attended and any not attended with the reasons for not doing so.

Transparency and integrity within in Local Government is paramount to restoring public confidence. I realise that future promises require a leap of faith, however I would like to point to my last year served on West Lancashire District Council where it is a matter of public record that I did not claim any expenses even though fully entitled to do so.

Background
My career as a Local Councillor began in 1971 on Ormskirk Urban District Council; I served on the River Crossens Drainage Board which was my first involvement with the Northern Parishes. I went on to serve on West Lancashire District Council when formed in 1974 serving as Labour Group Leader for some 21 years and Leader of the Council for 8 years. In 2008 I was made Honorary Alderman.
In 1998 I was appointed to serve on South Lancashire Health Authority and was Chairman 2001/ 2002. Upon leaving the SHA I was made an Honorary Member of the Royal Society of Medicine. After a parallel career as a Local Government Officer I retired from Knowsley MBC in 1998. Should I be elected as your County Councillor I will apply my experience and knowledge to tackling the real and complex issues facing the Northern Parishes.

Some of the issues I wish to cover during the forthcoming election are as follows;

  • The issue of traffic in the main settlements, in particular HGV movements, Commuter and School run congestion.
  • The Ribble Estuary Park and leisure facilities
  • Planning matters of County wide importance

Than you for taking your time to read this Election Statement
