4th May 2006 Local Elections
West Lancs District Council Candidate

Election address for Iain Ashcroft
Conservative Candidate for WLDC election – Hesketh Bank

I have been a District Councillor for the past 6 years, the last 4 of which as a Cabinet Member for both Planning and Streetscene. I now ask your support to serve for another 4 years. Married with grown-up children I have lived in Hesketh Bank for the past 18 years.
During the last 6 years whilst representing Hesketh Bank at District Council; Parish Council and as a junior school Governor, I have striven to improve the available service the District Council gives to our village. The Council’s involvement in many aspects of local life, apart from the statutory measures of Planning and Refuse Collection, directly relates to your needs concerning the environment, housing and street cleaning.

This year, despite the lowest possible support from Government, the Council Tax rise under local Conservative direction was kept at the lowest possible level – at less than the inflation rate – and this for the third year in succession. I will aim to focus resources where they are needed and cut needless waste.

Personally, I want to ensure that our local village infrastructure is improved and that housing and low cost housing developments are considered without further invasion into the green belt. Equally traffic is an increasing problem locally, that is why I will continue to support the Green Lane project to give alternate access for heavy vehicles to the moss areas and thus bypassing the village.

Please do give me your support. I strongly contend that a vote for my opposition candidate will mean much less influence for our village in District Council at Ormskirk.
