Tarleton
I
have been on Tarleton parish council with my husband John
for the last 6 years, John has been on for 12 years, and
I feel that I have helped significantly to contribute
to the changes that have brought the council into the
21st century. Parish councils are the first step of local
government and I feel that it is vital that the community
is engaged with the council in the decision making process
the affects all of our lives.
As
a family, we have friends and business interests in Hesketh
Bank and we have been encouraged by many to get involved
with Hesketh Bank Parish Council so our experiences can
be shared to help the villages work together.
It
is vital that we keep our own identities that give our
villages the character that I’m sure we are all
proud of but we can work and pull together to bring things
to our area that will benefit both communities.
There
will always be the ones who want to criticise and pull
holes in others efforts but what we need to do is to look
at the actions that people are putting in. Over the last
few years, how many times have we been taken to futures-Ville
by people who are still promising the same old things
that never quite materialise? We have achieved so much
in Tarleton in such a short time and it makes you wonder
why things didn’t happen before.
Its
time for parish councils to move on and become a modern,
effective and active organisation that people want to
become part of and want to work with. Let’s not
think of it being ‘us’ and ‘them,’
lets think of a team that can work and pull together for
the good of us all.
Kind
regards to everyone,
Gail Hodson
