LENT:
A time for study and worship
From
the Rectory
Dear
Friends,
Make
sure you give something up this Lent, just make sure that
something isn’t God.
Yours
sincerely, Father Nicholas

If you know of anybody who would welcome a visit, either
because they are in hospital, or because they are confined
to the home for whatever reason, or because they are new
to the parish, would you please fill in one of the slips
at the back of the church and place it in the box or contact
Fr Nicholas on 812614 or Pat Heap on 812991.

MOTHERS’
UNION: March
Our
prayer group will meet on Monday 6th March at 2.00 pm
in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
Our meeting on the 8th March at 7.30 pm in the Parish
Room will be a DIY session – but on a more serious
note than the one held in January!
Father Nicholas will lead a devotional afternoon on Wednesday
22nd March at 2.00 pm.
Saturday March 25th is Lady Day and we will attend the
Eucharist at 12.00 for a corporate act of worship on this
important day in the calendar of the Mothers’ Union.
Mothering Sunday falls on the following day, when there
will be a special Family Communion Service at 10.30 am.
Every branch in our Diocese has been asked to take part
in “Count your Blessings” during lent. This
is a calendar of blessings to be used, and the money raised
will be given to the Mothers’ Union Overseas Fund,
which is very much in need of our help to support the
excellent work of the 300 Overseas Diocesan Workers, who
are involved in training the local MU Members.
With
love for a meaningful journey through Lent.

Informal
Walking Group Easter Monday Walk 17th April
We start at 10.30 am on a route we have done before.
Park at the loop of Liverpool Old Road (off A59) just
on the Preston side of the Bangla Fusion Restaurant (not
the restaurant car park!) map reference 465227. We will
walk by footpath to the river Douglas opposite the Douglas
boatyard, and then go downstream behind the old tip to
emerge again by the river and break for lunch at the Dolphin
(Flying Fish) at around or after 12.30 pm.
The return is by a short section of river bank then footpaths
and roads back to the A59.
The Dolphin has good basic food, is child (and wheel-chair)
friendly, and now stocks some real ales.

Saturday July 1st A one day (long day!) Pilgrimage to
Holy Island, with worship led by Eddy Askew.
If we get ten people, we’ll have our own bus pick-up
(6.30 am-ish). Cost will be £29 each or £60
for a family ticket (two adults, two children.) You can
walk the pilgrim route over the sands or stay on the bus,
then explore the island and eat a picnic lunch before
worship in the abbey ruins. £5 deposit/ pilgrim
by mid-March.
We’ve registered interest in both trips - please
let me know if you would like to go on either or both
of these events.
Recycle
for TLM
I am delighted to report that during 2005 a total of £61,560.06
was raised nationally from the collecting of stamps, postcards
and some other collectables which includes old coins and
notes (GB or Foreign), Medals, Cigarette Cards and old
matchbox collections.
If you have a computer or know of anyone who has, I can
now collect used inkjet cartridges for recycling by The
Leprosy Mission. Also, old mobile phones can be recycled
for use by people in the developing countries (please
remove the SIM card first). There is a new, larger box
at the back of the church. Please continue to put in your
stamps, postcards etc. and any used inkjet cartridges
and old mobile phones for recycling (in plastic bags,
please.)

News
of our ordained friends
Over in the diocese of Ripon and Leeds, Margaret Rimmer
is coming to the end of her curacy and is to be appointed
to the combined Ouseburn benefices. Her licensing is on
Friday 19th May at 7.30 pm. The benefice is made up of
Great Ouseburn, Little Ouseburn, Marton cum Grafton, and
Whixley with Green Hammerton, with five church buildings,
one maintained by English Heritage.
Back in Blackburn, Keith Thomasson is coming to the end
of his second curacy at Longridge, and along with most
of his fellow curates has been told there will be no parochial
post for him in this diocese. This also applies to Alexandra
Logan, in our deanery at Penwortham St Mary. Please pray
for them as they look for parish or specialist posts elsewhere.
Please pray as well for Alison Alp, perpetual deacon,
who assisted us in worship at Christmas and Epiphany.
She is also looking widely as her former position as Parish
Deacon at St Nicholas, Fleetwood has been withdrawn on
financial grounds.
The
Mission Action Plan Prayer
God of new beginnings, we pray that you will transform
your church as you renew us by your love.
Give us vision for the journey that we may travel light,
and live increasingly by faith.
Inspire, enliven and empower us, so that along the Way
we may be sustained by the life of Christ in ourselves,
in one another, and in the world. Amen
