COACH - EVERGREEN.

Another away fixture saws us against Standish who last season won the 9v9 league with ease. Team talk focused on shape, passing and EATING BREAKFAST. We started as we did last week, the better side, only good defending by Standish kept the score level early on. Mid way through the half, Aous fired us into the lead, placing the ball just out of the keepers reach. Both sides produced more chances but the first half ended 0-1.

Second half both teams strived to play good football on a sticky pitch, with both keepers pulling off good saves. Our second was from a corner, not a great corner but a scuffed affair that travelled on the floor across the six yard box to the far post where Thomas gratefully tapped it in. Standish then thought they had a shout for a penalty when their striker fell under a last ditch challenge by Scott (speaking after the game Scott said he won the ball - a more honest lad you won`t meet so that`s good enough for me). A lapse of concentration and with our midfield tiring Standish pulled one back, setting the nerves a jangling. But minutes later our two goal lead was restored, another quality corner saw their goalie pull out a wonderful save only for Aous to follow up and score his second. Full time 1-3.

Man of the match - Scott, another solid performance as ever.

A special mention to their number 3 who had a blinder, winning 99% of the tackles and interceptions on the left.

The belief is back, the passing is coming off and we are finally communicating ON the pitch. Next week and a very tough fixture against my favourites for the title - Cadley. Management are hoping that we can continue to believe and show Cadley and the rest of the teams in this division we can play football.

UP THE ECKY BONK !!!!!!

HESKETH BANK 3 COCKERHAM 2

The U12`s secured their first points of the season in a hard fought match, in which a draw would have probably been a fairer result. We started the brighter but found ourselves one down after 10 mins, when we were caught ball watching. Several minutes later we equalised with a fine passing move finished by Alo. It looked like it would be all even going into the break when a Cockerham player stole through only to be up ended by Matt in goal with what can only be described as a very clumsy challenge ( a red card in senior football ). After treatment the victim dusted himself down and took the penalty, which luckily for us went wide of goal.

Second half was a continuation of the first with both defences kept busy. Our next goal was a testament to never giving up till the ball is in the keepers hands. Our pressure on their defensive line lead to confusion and an intended back pass wrong footed the keeper to put us 2-1 up. This seemed to awaken Cockerham who bombarded our back line with balls over the top, resulting in an equaliser. By now it was one way traffic with ten mins to play,Cockerham`s lack of composure in front of goal the only thing keeping us in the game. With the clock ticking down we found ourselves with a corner. Connor`s delivery (as usual) was immaculate, but unlike the 99/100 where we fail to make contact, Josh rose above everyone and headed the winner out of reach of the diving keeper.

MAN OF THE MATCH - JAKE.

Next week were away to Standish, hoping to continue with another performance to keep us out of the relegation places.

Last season we finished third in stage III Division - won 11, drew 3, lost 2, - 36 points.

This season we have been promoted to A (second) Division and are still searching for our first point.

Results so far - HB 0 vs. Penwortham Town 6, Gillibrand Warriors 4 vs. HB 3, Poulton 11 vs. HB 0, Walton West End 9 vs. HB 2. We also lost in LFA cup 4-3 to PST. Our next match (11th Oct) is against Cockerham, who narrowly beat us in a pre season friendly.
