The Fermor Hesketh Challenge Cup - The Medals
2003 - 2004 Season Archive

28th May 2004 - Hesketh Bank 'A' team were rewarded for a remarkable performance throughout the competition when they won the 2004 Medals sponsored by Abram Brothers Builders at Station Road last night. In a closely fought final Barry Rimmers team, which is actually Hesketh Bank's 3rd team made up of the classic mixture of youth and experience, defeated Tarleton Corinthians 1st team 1-0 after extra time. Played in front of a large crowd in perfect conditions the match was hardly a classic with very few chances created. Almost inevitably the match drifted into extra time and a penalty shoot out looked the likely outcome to separate the two sides. However with 5 minutes remaining David Pinckard went down after a clumsy challenge in the area and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Young Andrew Chapmen stepped forward to smash the ball home to score the winner.

26th April - The first team clinched the Division One title and therefore the league and cup double at a sundrenched Station Road last Saturday defeating Lytham St. Annes 4-1 with goals from Lee Gray (2), Paul Rimmer and Kevin Kirby.

14th November - The first steps to achieving the proposed club facilities moved forward last night as West Lancashire Planning Committee gave the thumbs up to the outline planning proposal for sports facilities including a floodlit all weather sports surface, changing facilities and a club house with fitness rooms and recreation hall.

HB AFC Chairman, Peter Leigh, said today "This is possibly one of the biggest steps forward Hesketh Bank AFC has made since it's formation in 1922. The proposed facilities will provide a much needed focus for the Football Club as well as providing the essential training facilities that the Club needs to develop football for the youth of Hesketh Bank and also achieve FA Charter Status. The sports facilities proposed will be a great asset to the village and will fully compliment the other sports initiatives underway in neighbouring Tarleton"
