Last Day of train services between Southport and Preston
Hesketh Bank Railway Station

Date: Sunday September 6th, 1964
Notes: The Preston to Southport railway ran from 1882 until 1964. The final train was in fact the 4:52pm Preston to Southport. This train was pulled by engine 42296, a Stanier Class 4 Tank. The train was six coaches long instead of the normal three to cater for the huge crowds expected; in the event it ran half empty.

The Last Preston to Southport Train

Train over the Douglas
Date: 1920's
Notes: Possibly a Johnson 4-4-0 of around the 1920's, this would fit in with the train it is pulling, of similar vintage and is probably on an excursion as these weren't used on this line.
John Bulmer adds "I note from your web site that the above referenced photo identifies the locomotive as a Johnson 4-4-0. Whilst it is certainly a 4-4-0, it is most definitely a Lancashire and Yorkshire one and therefore, not by Johnson, but more probably by Barton-Wright or Aspinall. The coaches also appear to be L&Y, suggesting it was a scheduled service, rather than an excursion."
