Introduction
The Dandy family
has lived in Tarleton at least since early in the 16th century.
Janet Dandy, who has herself lived in the village for most of
this century, is in a unique position to write about Tarleton's
history. As well as describing the village's general history,
in this book she also shares some fascinating recollections about
life here at the beginning of this century.

Preface
This publication
came about as a result of several requests from the younger generation
of Tarletonians. I have lived in Tarleton most of my life, and
have always taken an interest in the history of our village. Having
been asked on several occasions to speak to various local groups
about the history of Tarleton and about my recollections of the
village earlier this century, I decided that it would be worth
while to commit some of this information to paper in a more permanent
form. This booklet is the result.
My only regret
is that John Webster, who always showed great interest in the
project, and who kindly provided several of the old pictures for
this book, died shortly before publication.
