Higham is a direct descendant of the first Postmaster
of Hesketh Bank.
Joy
writes "The 1st postmaster (my Great Great Grand Father)
was Robert Wright and he was a Grocer & Postmaster at
the old cottages on Shore Road facing the village school.
In
1879 his son (my Great Grand Father), also Robert, was appointed
as the first postman in Hesketh Bank.
On
the death of his father in 1891 he was appointed Postmaster.
He remained at the old Post Office until 1909 when he transferred
the business to a new house he had built further along Shore
Rd (Brooklands) where it stands today.
My
Great Grand Father was a man of means, having also built Rose
Cottages (1898) & Sunnyside (1899) before building Brooklands." |
