area should be warned: it's going to involve a lot of
legwork. And that's even if you use the latest tools available
on the internet. There's a huge amount of historical and
genealogical data on the Net, and family tree research
has become one of the most popular pastimes for people

Ancestry
- Search the historical records from England, Ireland,
Scotland and Wales - A massive database of British census,
baptisms, christenings, marriages, burials and wills. 1911 Census data now online.
Genes
Reunited allows you to add your family history and then
search our database to see if you can match any of your
relations against any other member's details. It is not
limited to the UK - it is a global resource.
The
Public Record Office was officially merged with the Historical
Manuscripts Commission in July 2003 to form the National
Archives. The National Archives of England, Wales and the
United Kingdom has one of the largest archival collections
in the world, spanning 1000 years of British history, from
Domesday Book of 1086 to government papers recently released
to the public.
Good
genealogy links and some St Catherine's House Indexes to
Births, Marriages and Deaths. Indexes which are continually
being upgraded but are far from complete.
The
Commonwealth War Graves Commission provides details of Commonwealth
soldiers, sailors and airmen who died during the two world
warsand where they are buried. Also has details of 60,000
civillian casualties of the Second World War.
Lancaster
Assize Records - Information about judgements made in the
Courts at Lancaster Castle and a good section on convicts
transported to Australia - Database is in the early stages
of development but a promising resource.
